Galvan Spoke Reel
The Spoke reel released in 2009 was driven by two simultaneous objectives. The first was to refine the responsiveness, enabling precise presentation and management of small flies with extremely light tippets. The second was to create a stunning and forward thinking work of art while keeping the durability and ruggedness expected from a Galvan.
Functionally we took the Torque drag system and scaled it down in size. This had a two-stage effect. It lightened the overall weight of the reel and also enabled the lowest incremental range of drag setting yet. This in turn gave the Spoke an even lower start up inertia than the already super low start up inertia of the Torque and Rush Light. This established the wide range of adjustment in the low-end drag settings we were looking for to protect the smallest of tippets. Of the four sizes of our Torque drag system, the Spoke has the smallest in drag surface area. Built in 2 wt. through 7 wt. it is more than capable of handling monster fish yet now offers an exceptionally refined feel and defined functionality necessary in the hunt for those elusive small river and spring creek fish.
Aesthetically we hit the nail on the head with the unique two-piece, two-toned spool, which is still the only spool of its kind on the market. The two pieces are married with six stainless steel lock-tightened allen screws rather than rivets. The interior spoke color choices of blue, green or clear, when paired with the solid black frame allows for multiple color combinations, making finding the right fly line not only a breeze but a stunning work of art that stands out on the river.
With imagination and innovation as the driving force the scaled down drag system and the overall aesthetics have made the Spoke one of our most unique and lightest disc drag reels to date. Be prepared for some questions and a lot of looks if you get one because it’s a head turner.
